'ANACHRONISM' - 2018

In the third annual collaboration between the Arts University Bournemouth and Russell-Cotes, the second year Fine Art students have bridged the gap between the past and present through their varying responses to the house and its intriguing history. Inspired by Annie and Merton’s personal collection of curiosities, the works displayed address a range of contemporary issues, with the idea of anachronism running through the exhibition.Ranging from video pieces to installations and paintings, each artist has put their own spin on an area of the house’s history that is of most importance and interest to them.

‘Anachronism’ will be open from the 20th to the 25th of March during Russell-Cotes’ usual opening hours, with the private view taking place on the evening of the 22nd of March between 6 and 8 pm.

TELLING TALES - 2016-2017

Telling Tales is an exhibition rooted in fiction, in which worlds, truths and realities are created, dismantled and questioned.

The exhibition traces the fragile lines between utopian fantasy and its dissolution into dystopian realities. The artists are testing alternate narratives, realities and blueprints, examining life stories and unravelling (other)worldly designs "and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of our existence" [Lex Thomas]. Telling Tales showcases the work of artists covering the age range of 19-84.

‘A PAINTING EXHIBITION'- 2016

In Bournemouth Gardens on Friday 13th, we had ’A Painting Exhibition’ curated by our very own artist in residence, Sian Hutchins. The exhibition consisted of twenty-one artists tasked with challenging the medium of paint. Historically, paint has been a palette, a brush and a canvas. Sian’s exhibition didn’t disprove that but highlighted that even a process with such a history as painting can also adapt in the modern world.
